Why Winter Is the Best Time to Start Laser Hair Removal Treatment
Laser hair removal has become a popular option for eliminating unwanted hair. If you’re trying to get ready to show off your skin in the warm months, starting this process in the winter is your best option. Read on to find out why.

Hair removal has been a part of humanity for thousands of years, and in that time we’ve used everything from sharp edges, actual blades, wax, and creams, to chemicals. Many of these methods are still popular today, and so is the modern method: laser hair removal

Laser therapy is being used for a lot of different treatments, and is very common for removing unwanted hair. If you live in the Denver, Colorado, Chicago, Illinois, San Diego, California, or Tampa, Florida, area, and you’re trying to get rid of unsightly hair, the experienced team at Ice Cave Body Sculpting can help you achieve the look you want with laser hair removal.

If you’re looking to use laser hair removal to get the look you want, we believe winter is the best time to do it. Let’s look at our method of laser hair treatment (broadband light therapy), how it works, and why winter is the best time to get started.

Understanding broadband light (BBL) therapy

Rather than rely on creams, wax, or blades to remove hair that grows back quickly, laser treatments emit a light that is absorbed by the melanin (pigment) in your hair. The absorbed light energy is then converted to heat, and that heat destroys the follicles that form hair.

BBL therapy (also known as a photofacial), employs multiple wavelengths of light to get under your skin and remove damaged skin cells, promote the production of proteins like collagen, and help with hair removal.

How the procedure works

BBL therapy starts with applying a gel to the area where hair is to be removed. You’re given goggles or glasses to protect your eyes from the light of the laser. Next, the device is applied to the treatment area. We use the Sciton Forever BARE BBL®. You feel warmth and possibly mild pain.

The whole process takes about 30 minutes but may vary depending on how much hair is being removed. It takes up to six rounds of treatment over several weeks for the best results, but you will start seeing a difference after your first treatment.

You should avoid tanning beds or direct unprotected sunlight for up to six weeks before laser hair removal. Also avoid sunless tanners, chemical peels, waxing, and products with chemicals like glycolic acid, retinol, or salicylic acid.

Why you should start laser hair removal treatment in the winter

While you can get this procedure done any time of year, you want to give your body time to adjust and recuperate from your treatments. In most areas, winter offers a season with less heat and sun exposure, so you’ll have time to complete treatment and be fully ready to show off your new look once the weather’s warmer and everybody wants to be out in the sun.

After a session, your skin will be red and swollen in the treatment area which will be easier to manage when the intense rays of the spring or summer sun aren’t bearing down on you. The heat of the laser makes your skin more sensitive, and the heat of the sun only risks making that worse if you’re not careful.
